Unintentional Parenting Support

So, like many other parents, I'm frequently telling my kids that it's important to eat healthy food, drink clean water and get plenty of rest because it helps children grow up big and strong. And I've had the occasional conversations about why we shouldn't do things like smoke cigarettes, take pills we don't need, drink caffeine or alcohol*, eat too many sweets and languish in front of the TV because all those thinks will prevent children from growing up big and strong.

As I was taking Zooey and Edyn to school, we passed a man walking down the street. A man who happened to be a little person. A man who happened to be a little person and who happened to be smoking a cigarette. The kids' eyes grew as big as saucers.

Is it wrong to feel grateful?

*The official word about caffeine and alcohol at our house is that they aren't good for kids, but once you're all done growing, you can have a little coffee, a little wine, the occasional beer or whatever, and it's not going to hurt you.
