I have two siblings who are card-carrying geniuses. I think the only reason I do well on these tests is because I grew up with them asking "trick" questions that take a minute to figure out. Now I have to go see what answers I got wrong.

Quizzing Zooey

School's out, but I don't want Zooey to forget what he learned. So every now and then I give him a little oral quiz. He loves spelling out a few words, answering three or four math questions, etc.

The other day, I asked him a few religion questions, like, "Who is Jesus?" and whatnot. And just so you know my son is getting a stellar Catholic education, here's part of our last quiz.

Mom: "How do you get to heaven?"

Zooey (with a big "DUH -- what a stupid question!" look on his face): "You die."

That's my boy.

It doesn't matter.

It doesn't matter how big Terri Schiavo's brain was when she died. It doesn't matter that she was blind. She was still a human being and still deserved to be treated with human dignity. A big part of that is providing food and water to a human being who is unable to get it herself.

The autopsy didn't prove that Terri is NOT human, so she should NOT have been killed off like an unwanted puppy at your local humane society.

Please pray for Megan C.

She is the daughter of family friends and is struggling with a serious health issue. Her parents have taken all medical avenues and prayed and prayed and prayed to every saint they can think of and there has been utterly no progress. The family is drained and Megan's life still hangs in the balance. So if anybody out there reads this tired old blog of mine, please pray!

Congratulations, Micki!!!

Micki safely delivered twins Davis and Donovan yesterday. Both boys were healthy enough to avoid NICU, praise the Lord! Stop over to congratulate them all at Summa Mamas.

Actually, I think the C-section is already over by now. I hope MamaT will have an update for us over at Summa Mamas soon. The sooner the word comes, I figure, the fewer complications Micki and either of the boys experienced in the process. I know it was earlier than Micki wanted to deliver, but it was safest for all three of them to go now.

Interesting Thoughts on the Rosary...

...over at Luminous Miseries, a new blog written by a Protestant who is journeying toward the Catholic faith. And please don't take issue with the title of his blog -- he is sincere in his search for Truth, but it is not without a measure of pain and suffering, as he is a pastor who will have to leave his livelihood, risk friendships and family relationships, and re-learn how to pray, worship, etc., if and when he converts.

Amazing!

I got word late yesterday that Michael (our sponsor's son, who was attacked almost two weeks ago) was able to go home from the rehabilitation hospital! Actually, he's staying with his parents because he still needs a lot of help, but he is walking and doing just great with his therapy. He has some short-term memory loss, which is normal for his brain injury, but the therapist said that it should fade away with time, though he'll probably never remember the events of the evening he was attacked. He has lost 25 lbs (and was skinny to begin with) and is very stiff and sore, but he's already eager to go back to work.

And if that wasn't enough good news, the police have arrested the person they believe is responsible for the attack. His companions have been cooperating with the police, so it sounds like everything is working out on that end, too. No word yet on when the trial is, but I imagine it wil be within six to nine months.

I got to this quiz by way of A Plumbline in the Wind, and the results were a shocker, becuase I really am a Midwestern girl, born and raised in Chicago and then spending my college and early adult years in Iowa and Wisconsin. I've lived in Nebraska for almost 16 years, but I never would have guessed there was this much of an effect on my speech patterns.
